We are pleased to award a grant of £15,000 towards a wellbeing project run by BuildForce, a community interest company, which aims to inspire and enable Service leavers to pursue long-term careers in construction by offering practical help and advice.

While BuildForce’s focus is to equip veterans with employability skills, so that they can move on to employment, some of their veterans aren’t ready for this phase of the programme yet and need further mental health intervention, connectivity, and improved wellbeing.

The wellbeing project we are supporting will promote friendship, hobbies, and career planning to help veterans and their family members who are experiencing isolation and loneliness. The project will deliver a series of interactive sessions and 1-2-1 support. The interactive sessions will cover topics such as loneliness, finding a purpose and stress management.

Angela Forbes, CEO of BuildForce, said:

We are incredibly grateful for this grant from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity because it will allow us to support members of our veteran community who are requesting additional mental health support due to their anxiety over the impact of being made redundant or lockdown restrictions brought on by Covid.

Peter Monteith, Chief of Staff at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, said:

The lockdowns triggered mental health issues for so many people, including members of the Army family, so we are grateful for BuildForce’s commitment to the veteran community and delighted that we can support them with this grant.
