This evening will be in two parts:
1. 6.00 – 7.20 pm An Open Event will be held in the Cellar Bar at The Farnham Maltings on behalf of ABF-The Soldiers’ Charity. Bring along your Fine Art, Jewellery, Silver, Militaria, Ceramics, Accessories, small pieces of Furniture and Objets d’Art to meet our special invited team of highly experienced valuers and television personalities. Entry is £5 for spectators and an extra £10 to have a valuation by one of our experts. All proceeds will go to the Charity.
It is not necessary to apply for the first part of the evening; just turn up!
2. 7.15 – 10.00 pm A ticketed event – A Reception and Speakers Supper at Farnham Reserve Centre, Guildford Road at which John Benjamin will speak about his love of jewellery (see: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/C2BCSj0dV9hWlqsdLpkCtl/john-benjamin). This is followed by a traditional Army Curry (with alternatives) and the opportunity for the guests to have further assessments and valuations made by our experts. Tickets cost £30 pp.
We are offering an evening with a different character to our previous curry suppers. Eight experts from the antiques world will be on hand to discuss and value your treasures.
The cost is £30 a head. The format of the evening will be a drinks reception at 1915 with John’s talk starting at 1945. It is planned to serve a choice of curries (with a non-curry alternative) at 2015. There will be a cash bar for wine, beer and soft drinks. The various experts will be at different tables, and after supper you will be able to bring your items for opinion and valuation. You are invited to bring all sorts of things to show to our specially invited team of highly experienced valuers and television personalities, all of whom are providing their services gratis for the benefit of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. One point to note though, there will be no porters, so only portable items please.
We suggest a donation of £5 per item in recognition of the expertise on offer. John Benjamin (Speaker and Jewellery) has worked in the trade all his life, and now runs his own lecturing and valuation consultancy. He appears regularly on the BBC Antiques Roadshow as a jewellery expert. Clive Stewart-Lockhart (Generalist and Paintings) has a career including Sotheby’s, Dreweatts and Bonhams. He was on the Roadshow for many years and has also lectured on cruises around the world. Furniture and Decorative Arts will be the preserve of Lennox Cato, also a Roadshow expert, who was born into the antiques business and has over thirty five years own experience. Felicity Marno, an English and Continental ceramics specialist, will discuss china; while your silver will be looked over by Wynyard Wilkinson, an authority and much published author, not only on English silver, but Indian and colonial pieces as well. Prudence Hopkins will value textiles, handbags, accessories and luxury items; and Nathaniel Lee-Jones will advise you on ‘Curios and the Unusual’. He trades from Shoreditch and loves auctions, flea markets and car boot sales, indeed wherever folk are throwing out stuff. Last but not least, Tony Cribb is an Arms and Armour Specialist.
If you would like to come, and indeed bring a party, please return the attached booking form as soon as convenient but not later than Monday 21st October.
In order to maximise the funds available to help our soldiers and keep our costs down, you should assume that your acceptance is confirmed. Should you require an acknowledgment please provide us with an email address or a stamped addressed envelope.
Your support for the dinner or your donation will help to make a huge difference to the soldiers and former soldiers, who have faithfully served our country, and their families.
There will also be an open event on the same date (not necessary to book) which will be held at The Cellar Bar, Farnham Maltings, Farnham, GU9 7QR. This will take place between 1800 – 1920 which will be £5 for spectators and an extra £10 to have a valuation. All of these proceeds will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
