Calling all RLC Regiments! Can you take the racing crown from 3 Regiment RLC?
Collect your team and enter in to our RLC Inter-Regiment Dragon Boat Competition to raise funds for the Army family on Sunday 12th September 2021 on the River Thames in Abingdon. Family and friends are welcome to come and cheer you on!
The last dragon boat race took place in 2018 on the River Thames at Rye Farm Meadow in Abingdon-on-Thames when 3 Regiment RLC were the winners over 1, 4 and 29 Regiment RLC.
The Dragon Boat racing is the main focus of the day for both the competitors and spectators, but we will be arranging for refreshments and entertainment, especially for children.
Races will start at 12pm and will continue throughout the day with the race finals and medal presentation ceremony by 6pm.
Admission for spectators is free and car parking costs just £5 for the whole day.
About the competition
Each team (boat) is comprised of 16 paddlers, plus a drummer. Each team should have at least 20 people so different members can race throughout the day. Teams can be mixed or all male or all female.
Races: Each team will have a minimum of three races and the fastest teams will compete in the final. Races start at 12pm and finish at 6pm, with race finals and a presentation ceremony.
All equipment is provided by the organisers. Each team is given a full safety briefing and a short practice before the races start.
How to enter
Cost of entry £400 per team of 20 or £20 per crew member.
