Royal Ascot – Call for Armed Forces Volunteers on Friday 18 June 2021
The Trustees of Ascot Racecourse are keen to maintain links with the Armed Forces and their charities as part of the Friday of Royal Ascot week. Whilst the day is not designated as an ‘Armed Forces’ day, over time the Friday of each Royal Ascot week has become the day associated with the Armed Forces and their charities in the same way that the Thursday has become ‘Ladies Day’, although this is not the official description of that day. The Racecourse provides a dedicated lounge with bar facilities for Armed Forces personnel and their guests for this special day, with up to 3,000 tickets available at half price to Armed Forces personnel, MOD Civil Servants and their guests.
The RN & RM Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund are seeking up to 100 volunteers to act as collectors for the three Service Charities on Friday 18 June 2021 at the Racecourse. Individuals volunteering for this activity will be deemed to be “off duty” and acting in a private life capacity; they will have no tasks during the day other than assisting the Charities in their fundraising collection. All risk and liability will rest with individuals and not the Department.
In 2020 the race meeting had to be held without public attendance as a consequence of the pandemic and thus no Armed Forces personnel attended.
The format of the race meeting in 2021 has not yet been decided as this will depend on any Government direction in place with regard to the pandemic during 2021. It is stressed that whilst the Armed Forces Charities are seeking volunteers until the format of the race meeting has been decided it will not be possible to confirm that attendance by these volunteers and their guests will be possible. Updates will be provided to Armed Forces volunteers closer to the event.
