Royal Ascot – Call for Armed Forces Volunteers on Tuesday 15th June to Saturday 19th June 2021
The Trustees of Ascot Racecourse are keen to maintain links with the Armed Forces and their charities as part of the Friday of Royal Ascot week. In previous years collections made on behalf of the three Charities have been restricted to the Friday. However, this year as the number of racegoers will be limited each day to meet pandemic requirements, this has been extended to all five days of the race meeting.
The RN & RM Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund are seeking 12 volunteers to act as collectors for the three Service Charities on each of the 5 days of the race meeting. Individuals volunteering for this activity will be deemed to be “off duty” and acting in a private life capacity; they will have no tasks during the day other than assisting the Charities in their fundraising activities. All risk and liability will rest with individuals and not the Department.
In 2020 the race meeting had to be held without public attendance as a consequence of the pandemic and thus no Armed Forces personnel attended. The exact format of the race meeting in 2021 has not yet been decided as this will depend on Government direction in place with regard to the pandemic at the time of the race meeting but it is expected that between 4,000 and 10,000 people will attend each day. It is stressed that whilst the Armed Forces Charities are seeking volunteers, until the format of the race meeting has been decided, it will not be possible to confirm that attendance by these volunteers will be possible. Updates will be provided to Armed Forces volunteers closer to the event.
