As we watch events unfold, our thoughts are with the people of Afghanistan and the British Armed Forces personnel who served so bravely in the past campaign.

In particular, we remember those of our community who have suffered personally, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Our Chief Executive, Major General (Ret’d) Martin Rutledge, says: “I am clear that we can take great pride in the personal commitment of those who fought in Afghanistan and, equally importantly, their steadfast families over all those years.

“As the Army’s national charity, we stand ready to help soldiers, veterans and their families, including those who may have been working in Afghanistan and are now being evacuated, operating as always in concert with the Regimental and Corps charities. We remain in close contact with the Ministry of Defence and the Army and are very much poised to help as appropriate.”

The Camp Bastion Memorial Wall bears the names of all of the UK personnel who have died in Afghanistan.
