Scottish Veterans' Garden City AssociationThe Scottish Veterans’ Garden City Association (SVGCA), a private Scottish charitable landlord which houses only disabled ex-Service, Police, Fire, and Merchant Marine personnel, has recently been awarded a grant of £20,000 to help refurbish some of their houses.

Though the SVGCA house disabled ex-Service personnel, their disability doesn’t have to have been incurred in service. They work closely with the Tri-Service Personnel Recovery Centre and the priority is set against those in greatest need, facing potential homelessness.

The estate, located on 74 sites throughout Scotland, consists of nearly 700 houses currently of varying sizes and types, of which the majority are two and three bedroomed houses, some on two floors. Houses are rented for life, do not come up often and consequently, there is a long waiting list.

Peter Minshall, Chief Executive, SVGCA says: “This magnificent grant demonstrates a huge commitment from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity; it is appreciated greatly, as the funds will be used directly to help house more disabled veterans in need.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Robin Bacon, Chief of Staff, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity adds: “It is imperative that we make sure our veterans have a roof over their heads and a place to call home which is why the work of SVGCA is so important. By helping our disabled veterans with housing, they are providing them with much-needed stability in their lives. I would like to say a massive thank you to the SVGCA with all of the work they do.”
