ABF The Soldiers’ Charity has supported Turn to Starboard since its founding in 2012. They support Armed Forces personnel with physical and mental injuries using the known therapeutic effects of the sea. The charity offers participants the chance to complete Royal Yachting Association (RYA) courses to gain valuable qualifications.
Turn to Starboard is offering a unique opportunity for 50 veterans to take part in ‘Long Way Up’ – an epic expedition to sail 2,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’ Groats – and back.
This September, a fleet of five yachts will sail along the west coast of mainland Britain. Crew members will spend around three weeks at sea under expert tuition from professional instructors.
Their aim is to enable participants to experience working as part of a supportive team working in a challenging environment against strong winds and huge waves.
